Musalia Mudavadi Rules Out Power Deal With DP William Ruto

The forces behind the intended Luhya unity ahead of the 2022 General Election risk losing it all, should they drag the community towards the Deputy President's camp.

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has cautioned the camp that he is not ready for unity, should it be aimed at working with DP Ruto ahead of 2022.

Mudavadi, who spoke at a function attended by Ford Kenya party leaders and a host of elected politicians, stated that there is no way he could make any deliberations on a power deal with Ruto.

The ANC party leader distinctively ruled out efforts to accommodate the DP for an alliance noting he remains a competitor, and as such, the deal is unwelcome.

"Our unity is of great essence and we have to embrace it. We are on course and I know, even Wetangula is aware that Ruto is a competitor. We can not unite and then walk into a competitor's hands,"  stated Mudavadi.

Former Kakamega Senator and Boni Khalwale, who has in recent days closed in on working with DP Ruto, posits that Mudavadi is skeptical about joining other community alliances.

Khalwale stated that the ANC leader had intimated to him that he is still hurt by the manner in which DP Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta edged him out of the 2013 unity deal that saw them take power.

Mudavadi had positioned himself in 2013 to run for the presidency before the pairing of Ruto and Uhuru but was left out to face the ballot with Jeremiah Kioni as his running mate.

"Yesterday (Wednesday) Mudavadi agreed publicly with me on the ANC/FORD Kenya merger. But disagrees on the need to built alliances with other communities, parties maintaining that he can’t talk to a competitor (Ruto)," highlighted Khalwale.

Khalwale asked other leaders to "consider alliances with stronger leaders like the President, DP Ruto" or else they shall remain a spent force in 2022.

"It is not a secret that we shall have a two horse race in 2022. It is clearly unfolding to everyone that it will be a race between Ruto and Raila. Anyone seeking to form a third wing will be wasting time," Khalwale told Kenyans.co.ke on phone.
