Boni Khalwale Explains What Next for Moses Wetangula After Cutting Ties With Raila Odinga

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula over the weekend cut ties with Raila Odinga following weeks of threatening to ditch the opposition coalition.

Addressing mourners at Mukhweya village in Kabuchai constituency of Bungoma County, the Ford Kenya leader declared: "My friend Raila, I have no hard feelings for you but our journey with you is over.

"We are no longer going to allow people to use us to get to the top and while there, they start urinating on us."

Following his remarks, Kenyans.co.ke reached out Ford Kenya deputy leader Boni Khalwale to explain what was next for Wetangula and the party.

According to Khalwale, the party was now open to dialogue with any other interested partner(s) regarding its political future.

"Wetangula's position on the matter is an expression of the party that will put the interest Luhya community first.

"We are not beholden to Raila and now life goes on. We are free to engage with parties and communities with similar interests," Khalwale told Kenyans.co.ke on the phone.

Already, Ford Kenya and Amani National Coalition (ANC) have initiated efforts to merge their parties to form a unity party to push the community interest onto a national platform.

At the time, Musalia Mudavadi stated: “It is time for the Luhya to unite. We need the unity now more than ever. We have in the past taken different political positions making other people use and dump us."

Similarly, Kimilili MP Didymus Barasa exclaimed that they would do all it takes to bar the Opposition boss from setting foot in the county.

"We will engage in physical confrontations if necessary violence, with him (Raila) if he tries to step his foot on our land," he threatened.

Khalwale further stated that Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa would fail in his quest to drum up support for DP President William Ruto urging him to join the new party instead.

"When he (Eugene) dissolved New-Ford Kenya party to support, he lost his leadership position in the community. I foresee him coming to work together with us (Wetangula, Mudavadi) for the best interest of the luhya community," the former Kakamega Senator conveyed.
