President Uhuru Unhappy About Employing Youth in Government

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday openly admitted that a number of high-ranking youthful public servants in his government were nothing but a let down in service delivery.

The president, in his address during the commissioning of the new KCC plant in Sotik, Bomet County, stated that some of the youth in his government performed poorly despite pleading to be given state jobs.

He observed that the aging servicemen in his government outperform their younger counterparts even though he has always been criticized for letting the elderly work for him.

"Vijana pia inafaa wajifunze, wanalia kila siku wakisema hawana kazi huku wakisema wazee waondoke ili wapate kazi lakini kule vijana wanaongoza tunaona taabu na kule wazee wako tunaona maendeleo."

(Youth should now learn. They keep crying demanding for these jobs and push to have the elderly left out for them to take over leadership but we have seen in the areas youth lead there are problems. We can see progress from the old).

He made the remarks as he lauded the team behind the establishment of the new milk processing plant that has a capacity to absorb 100,000 litres daily.

Kenyatta challenged youth and farmers in the region to take full advantage of the investment that is now receiving 60,000 litres from farmers.

"The days when milk produced by farmers went to waste due to lack of a market will be a thing of the past since the refurbished Sotik milk plant now has the capacity to convert milk into powder and later on reconstitute it into long shelf-life milk," stated President Kenyatta.

He further affirmed his commitment to fighting graft in the country, challenging Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago to keep watch over the ministry of agriculture to actualize the prosecution of rogue businessmen paid as farmers.

"Governor Mandago, I have tasked you with tackling the issues affecting the maize farmers. Make sure it is handled, we want to see the farmers paid and people going to jail," he told the county boss who also attended the launch.

The president later on Monday afternoon officially opened the Lake Region Economic Block conference that is underway in Bomet County.
