Woman, Child Die After Lightning Strikes Church

A woman and child died on Saturday after being struck by lightning as they sought shelter from a storm outside a church in Nakuru County.

The woman and three children, with one being her niece, had sought shelter outside the AIC Church, Kapkirem which is in the lower sub county of Solai.

The area Assistant Chief, Stanley Bett, confirmed that the four were rushed to Lower Solai hospital where the 21 year old woman succumbed to her injuries.

The three children were transferred to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital (PGH) for further treatment as reported by Citizen Digital.

One of the children, a class six pupil, died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment while the other two were stated to be in stable condition.

The lighting that struck at around 6 pm caused havoc as it also killed three goats.

In March this year, a woman and her two children were killed in their house after it was struck by lightning in Tharaka Nithi County.

In a similar incident in 2016, a school dormitory was burnt after lighting struck while pupils of Eronge SDA Boarding Primary School had gathered for prayers at a Chapel in Borabu,Nyamira County.

The incident damaged property worth Ksh 15 million.

Evans Osinde, the school Headmaster, pointed out that no student was hurt but 160 students had lost their belongings.
