KCSE Candidate Goes Blind Before Start of Exam

A KCSE candidate went blind just before the start of exams which began on Monday.

A female student from Marungu Secondary School in Voi sub-county went blind before she sat for her Maths exams in the morning hours.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke ,Principal Information Officer for Voi Jumeah Fatuma, on Wednesday confirmed that the student complained that she could not see anything.

"She stated that she could not see anything after she received her paper.

"The teachers there rushed her to hospital where the doctors could not find the cause of the problem," remarked Fatuma.

The PIO further revealed that the candidate had been having problems with her eyesight two weeks prior to the exam.

Fatuma however could not confirm the hospital the student was taken to.

In a similar incident in 2014, a student from Bar-Chando Secondary School in Bondo sub-County went blind moments before sitting for her paper.

Bondo Sub-County Education Officer Ms Mary Oichoe explained that the Bar-Chando student had a history of eye problems and had experienced such attacks on three occasions in school.

Oichoe pointed out that the candidate would eventually regain her sight after the attacks.
