ODM Leader Raila Odinga Postpones Crisis Meeting

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leader Raila Odinga put off the party’s leadership crisis meeting slated for Thursday, November 8, until later.

Raila, who had already turned up for the meeting, was furious with the top management at the party after some claimed they received invites slightly before noon on the day the meeting was scheduled to take place.

It was further revealed that the late letter dispatch was aimed at locking out members who support the current status in leadership alignment.

Some of us received invites from the party Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen around 11 am today. We feel it was deliberate to lock out certain individuals from turning up for the meeting,” complained one attendee according to The Standard.

The meeting had been planned in order to solve leadership wrangles experienced by the party’s top-tier at Nairobi County Assembly.

In an earlier report by Kenyans.co.ke, ODM Chairman John Mbadi was quoted revealing that letters had been sent out to members of the party informing them of the meeting.

The letters have gone out to the MCAs notifying them of a meeting. The matter is set to be arbitrated this week in a bid to bring together the two groups,” the ODM Chairman remarked.

This was in connection to an earlier letter Mbadi had written to the acting Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly, Chege Mwaura, informing him of changes in the leadership of the party.

Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi and Lower Savanna MCA Nicholas Ouma had been selected to replace Minority Leader Elias Okumu and Minority Whip Peter Imwatok respectively.

The two were replaced after they defied Raila’s directive not to take part in the motion that sought to impeach Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

Parliamentary Minority Whip Junet Mohamed and ODM Political affairs Opiyo Wandayi Secretary were out of the country at the time of the meeting

The meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday next week.
