Safaricom Issues Update on M-Pesa System Delay

Leading telecommunications company Safaricom has responded to reports of money sending service M-Pesa being down on Wednesday morning.

In a series of replies, Safaricom confirmed that there was a delay with the service with users not being able to withdraw or deposit money on their phones.

"We are experiencing a delay affecting the service, kindly bear with us, we are working to get this resolved," one response read.

They added that technicians were working to stabilize the service within the shortest time possible.

Safaricom assured to notify their customers when the service would be back online.

"Yes, we will notify you once the service is back. Apologies for the inconvenience," one user was reassured. 

Services like buying airtime on M-Pesa remained unaffected as customers were able to access credit.

At noon, Safaricom issued a statement confirming that the M-Pesa system had been restored

"The service has been restored and working perfectly," they stated.

M-Pesa is a mobile banking service that allows users to store and transfer money through their mobile phones.

It was launched in 2007 as an alternative way for the unbanked population of the country to have access to financial services. 



Currently, there are over 40,000 agents countrywide making the Safaricom experience satisfying with many more outlets being added daily.
