The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has finally accepted the resignation of popular Mugithi singer Samuel Muchoki, alias Samidoh, from the National Police Service.

Samidoh, who had juggled between the service and being a musician, had served for 12 years until recently, when he began encountering problems with his employers, even facing desertion charges.

In his resignation, Samidoh cited personal reasons, specifically his desire to focus on one career, his music.

Confirming the resignation, Kanja stated, “He is free to pursue whatever he wishes." His resignation took effect on July 20.

His resignation comes months after aligning with the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and participating in the wantam chants directed at President William Ruto.

In June, the National Police Service ordered his arrest, citing desertion from his duty post since May 27, 2025, following his redeployment to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil.

Samidoh had reportedly failed to report to the new station for over 10 days, and his continued absence had prompted disciplinary action. Besides ordering his arrest, the service also suspended his salary.

“Please be informed that No. 247569/2013040010 APC Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit ‘MTD’ Company is on the above subject. The officer was granted off-duty and was supposed to report back on 27/05/2025, but he failed to do so,” a report by the ASTU commandant read in part.

As it all unfolded, the musician was believed to be on a music tour in the United States without formal clearance from the service.

While in the US, Samidoh even performed at the Ngemi Cia Ruraya event in Seattle, Washington, graced by the former Deputy President, fueling rumours that he had chosen a side.

His transfer to the Administration Police (AP) Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Gilgil from a regular police officer was also suspected to be a disciplinary measure.

On July 25, the court granted Samidoh anticipatory bail of Ksh200,000 and issued orders barring his arrest. However, it ordered that he surrender his passport.
