NHIF Deductions Will Not be Increased- CS Sicily Kariuki

There shall be no increment in the contributions Kenyans make to the National Health Insurance Fund, Health CS Sicily Kariuki clarified on Thursday.

Responding to earlier media reports that the state was to make adjustments on the NHIF deductions from salaries, the CS stated that there were no such plans and as such parts of the media were misleading.

"The government does not intend to raise NHIF monthly deductions for workers to 2 per cent. When the time comes for any increase, public participation shall be done.

"All the workers will be involved should there be such a plan, but that is not intended now as had been reported by some of the media houses," stated CS Kariuki.

In August, the government insurer announced that contributors would be allowed to access outpatient healthcare services at any accredited hospitals of their choice.

This month, NHIF has carried out registration and public sensitization services in several counties.

In the event a subscriber loses their NHIF card, they are allowed to have a new one at any NHIF offices.

To have a replacement of the card, one pays Ksh100. You will then need to present the deposit slip to any NHIF branch countrywide so as to be issued with a new card.

.For new members, it takes at least two months for their card to be mature for use. In order to access the services under the NHIF cover, it is required that one ensures that their monthly contributions are upto date.
