ODM Leader Raila Odinga Maintains He is in Opposition

AU envoy Raila Odinga has clarified his position in Jubilee Government since his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Raila stated that himself and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka are still members of the opposition and haven't joined Jubilee hence are free to criticise the state.

During his meeting at Capitol Hill with leaders from Embu County, he further explained that his handshake with the President was for peace and should not be mistaken to mean that the opposition is dead.

"I have not joined Government. I do not hold any position in the Jubilee administration. Therefore, nothing stops me from criticising the Government. Those that have contrary views are wrong," stated Raila according to The Standard.

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi had on Wednesday faulted former Prime Minister’s March 9 handshake with President Kenyatta.

He accused Raila of betraying millions of Kenyans who had diligently voted for him explaining that a country needs an opposition to keep the government in check.

The Amani National Congress leader also stated that he would not pick up a state job if offered because he wants to concentrate with the opposition.

We must move away from the notion that opposition is about picketing, about throwing stones, about violence. We can have different ideas, different positions on very many issues but we must now learn to persuade people through logic and not through violence,” stated Mudavadi.
