Mike Sonko Gives Kshs 500,000 to Police Who Killed Criminals in Kayole

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday awarded Kshs 500,000 to police officers involved in an operation that killed notorious criminal gangsters who operated in Eastlands, Dandora estate.

In a statement to media houses dated November 19, 2018, the county boss commended the police for gunning down the victims who had been terrorising residents.

“I salute the police for doing a good job, especially after I issued a 7-day amnesty to armed criminals to surrender their firearms. I'll reward the police officers involved in the operation Kshs Sh500,000." The governor stated.

Governor Sonko also extended the amnesty he had given to criminal gangs to surrender their illegal weapons to the police.

He had issued the 7-day ultimatum to gangs a week ago in Matopeni, Embakasi Central Constituency during a fund-drive for Harrison Karanja.

Karanja is one of the victims shot and severely injured by gangsters in Kayole area and is currently recuperating in a Nairobi hospital.

The governor pledged that those who return weapons acquired illegally, within this period, will not be punished but called on the youth to shun criminal activities and instead seek for help on how to start income generating projects.

Sonko, however, warned those who fail to do so that they would face the full force of the law.

“All those holding firearms illegally still have an opportunity to return them. You will get jobs and protection," Sonko assured the criminals.

On Sunday, four of the suspected thugs were gunned down in a dramatic shoot-out with police, an incident reported to have occurred during a botched robbery in Kayole.

DCI officers are said to have approached the group of four who on being challenged, refused to surrender and instead started firing, prompting the detectives to respond.

At the scene, two pistols, four rounds of ammunition and several assorted calling cards were recovered.
