Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya’s Son Tops Coast Region KCPE

Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya’s son emerged the top Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate in the coast region.

Hassan Wanini Mvurya, 14, led the region with a total of 440 marks out of the aggregate 500.

In the results released on Monday by Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed in Mombasa, the county chief’s son came up short of only 13 marks from the country’s two top performers.

Besides the Governor, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale’s daughter, Olivia Sabayi Khalwale, also performed well in KCPE amassing a total of 359 marks.

Taking to social media, Khalwale celebrated the achievements accrediting her success to her teachers at Malinya Primary School.

My (daughter) has just made us proud by her success at the #KCPE2018. My wives and I owe it to prayers & the teachers of Malinya Primary School. Congratulations my Oliviorii...” wrote the former senator.

The top performers, Olive Mwea Wachira from Riara school in Nairobi and Rawlings Otieno from Kakamega Hill School tied at 453 marks.

The two top students also happened, in a rare occurrence, to tie in all their subjects with Mathematics leading the pack at 99%.

In a report exclusive to Kenyans.co.ke, Mwea revealed that she intended to pursue a career in Pharmacy after her secondary school education whose selection is set to commence on December 3.

Otieno, on the other hand, wishes to be a doctor.

Nyali Primary School from the Mombasa region was among the top performers in this years KCPE alongside Memon Primary and Aga Khan Academy.

Other top performers included Victor Momanyi Mogusu from Makueni with 452 marks, Leonard Asanga from Moi Primary in Kabarak with 451 and Ashley Wambui Mwangi from Kirinyaga with 447.

More than one million candidates sat for the national exams and are expected to proceed to secondary school. Only four pupils had their results revoked.
