Former Nation media Journalist Casper Waithaka died in a road accident along Mombasa Road on Friday after his car rolled several times.
The vehicle veered off the road while trying to avoid hitting a boda boda at the Athi/River Namanga interchange.
The former journalist had told a reporter from The Star, who he was with up to 9:00 pm, that he would travel to Westlands to meet another friend.
Waithaka left at 9:00 pm for Nairobi but never made it to his destination. The news of his death broke out at about 11:00 pm.
The body was taken from the accident scene and moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary.
At the time of his death, he was serving as a communications officer at East African Portland Cement Company.
Boda boda operators have proved to be a menace on the roads as they have contributed a high number of accidents.
In October, Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo was involved in a grisly road accident as the vehicle she was in lost control as her driver tried to avoid hitting a boda boda rider.
The Woman Representative and two other passengers Daniel Onyango and David Ouma were rushed to Migori Referral Hospital and later transferred to Agha Khan Hospital, Kisumu.
NTSA director general Francis Meja has been quoted blaming the increase in the number of accidents involving boda bodas on the proliferation of motorcycles in Kenya and the recklessness of the riders.
“It is estimated that we are on average registering 9,000 motorcycles every month but the biggest challenge is the misbehavior of these motorcyclists on the road, they are not observing any traffic regulations on the road,” he stated.
