Fiesta Stamina & Fiesta Big Black Male Condoms Recalled

The Health Ministry has recalled two brands of Fiesta male condoms after the products failed a quality test.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Pharmacy and Poisons Board CEO Dr Jacinta Wasike stated that Fiesta Stamina and Fiesta Big Black condoms had failed the 'freedom from holes' and the 'thickness' tests respectively.

"The Pharmacy and Poisons Board carried out a post-marketing surveillance activity and one of the products sampled was Fiesta Stamina and Fiesta Big Black condoms manufactured by Cupid limited.

"The batch for Fiesta Stamina failed freedom from holes test while that for Fiesta Big Black failed the thickness test," the statement read in part.

The manufacturers of the condoms were directed to recall the affected batch and submit a plan to handle the situation.

Earlier in July, a man moved to court against the government and pharmaceutical company Beta Healthcare over what he termed as a faulty condom that burst while he was engaging in intercourse with a woman he was having an affair with.

The man alleged that the condom pack bore a Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)standardisation mark and has enjoined both KEBS and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) as respondents in the suit.

During a rebattle in court, however, the condom manufacturer stated that the man must have worn the wrong size leading to its rupturing.

An employee of Beta Health care, Chiraq Patel, stated that the man had not produced any evidence to show he asked for the right size that fit him.

"I am aware of the fact that if one puts on a condom that does not match his size, there is a high chance of rupturing.

"If at all the petitioner wore Zoom condom (which he has to prove) it is possible that it was not the right size. That is why perhaps it ruptured, an allegation he still has to prove," Patel relayed in court.
