Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday introduced changes in the CBD for the December holiday.
Speaking at Kiboro grounds in Mathare during the Nairobi monthly clean-up exercise, Sonko ordered all building owners within the CBD to repaint their buildings during the period.
"I have ordered all building owners within the city’s Central Business District to repaint their buildings during the December festive season.
"In this regard, my administration will only issue unified business permits for the year 2019, to businesses in buildings and premises that have been repainted," he stated.
The owners are also required to repair the small section of pedestrian walkways in front of their buildings with even and coloured paving blocks.
He assured Nairobi residents of their security as they engaged in festivities during the month.
"We approach the festive season, I wish to assure those who will be in Nairobi for Christmas and the New Year that my government will provide adequate security to all revellers.
"May I urge all the drivers to exercise caution on the road for the safety of motorists and pedestrians," he added.
He further acknowledged the relationship with UN-Habitat whose officials recommended the ongoing beautification process in the city.
"We are proud of the working relationships that Nairobi county government has established with individuals, private companies, resident associations, regional and international NGOs especially UN-Habitat who are present today to make the clean-up exercises a success," he noted.
