Baby Consolata Found, Mother Arrested

Police have arrested Joyce Wairimu, mother to eight-month-old baby, Consolata Wambui, who had gone missing at Mshomoroni Falcon, Mombasa on November 8.

Two other people, Susan Nyambura, 54, and Margret Wairimu, 35, were also arrested.

Wairimu is said to have pretended to be Consolata's mother and Nyambura her grandmother.

Baby Consolata was found in Molo after detectives tracked communications of the three suspects on their mobile phones using GPRS.

Peter Kinuthia, Consolata's father, had told the media that the baby disappeared in the afternoon when she was left alone briefly by her mother.

The investigating officer claimed that the baby would remain a property of the government and would be under the care of the police for the time being.

The police warned, "Whenever one is reported missing, we must first ask among family members who are responsible because as you have seen in this case, one of the suspects is her mother.

"You may falsely accuse someone. Parents who give false alarm will face the full force of the law.

"What we are now investigating is whether or not she sold her at a fee," the police stated.

Earlier in November, the family had offered a Sh100,000 reward for anyone who will find baby Consolata.
