ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has finally come clean on the intricacies behind his now famous reconciliatory handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to Nation, Raila dispelled an earlier assertion that the handshake was their brainchild.
Raila indicated that a carefully selected team of elders code-named "counsels of wisdom" facilitated the handshake.
He further reportedly indicated that the handshake was a culmination of a series of meetings facilitated by the goodwill team.
Raila also highlighted that scheduling the handshake on March 9 as was equally strategic to seal the deal before the visit by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Having the handshake after the visit would allegedly have "shrouded in speculation" that they had been forced into a truce by the West.
"We knew doing so after he comes or when he is around would have given the impression that it was the West that brought us together," Raila stated.
Despite immense pressure from a section of his advisers not to compromise, the "counsels of goodwill" prevailed and facilitated dialogue which culminated in the handshake.
However, the NASA principal reportedly declined to reveal the identities of the "counsels" saying "It is a subject for another day".
From being frowned upon by government officials before March, Raila has endeared himself to a point where he is reportedly consulted by some senior ministry officials on their day-to-day-running of government.
This revelation brings to the fore speculation that have been rife claiming that Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Philip Kameru and Mama Ida Odinga played an integral role in bringing the two together.
