6 Perish in Accident at Chepseon Along the Kericho-Nakuru Highway

Six members of one family perished in another tragic accident on Thursday along Kericho-Nakuru highway.

The accident involved a saloon car and lorry at Complex area near the Chepseon blackspot section.

Police sources indicate that among the victims were students being taken back to school for the first term which was commencing.

The lorry was heading towards Kericho direction while the saloon was en route to Nakuru when the two vehicles collided head-on.

The accident comes hours after a report by the police indicated that over 3,156 people perished due to road carnage in 2018 alone.

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, however, noted that the fatalities marked a drop from 3,700 deaths in 2017.

Boinnet attributed the drop to cooperation between road users and traffic officers, especially during the festive season.

"We are grateful for the extra caution on the highways. It is important that all road users use the roads with great responsibility," the police boss noted.

He further cautioned cyclists to always wear protective gear and obey all traffic laws and pedestrians to use footbridges and designated areas when crossing roads.
