police officer on Saturday shot himself dead in an alleged suicide in a toilet at Mombasa Ports.
The officer identified as Charles Ndolo, who was stationed at Kipevu Police Post is said to have shot himself in the head.
Confirming the incident, Mombasa Port Police Chief Patrick Lobolia stated that investigations were ongoing.
“Yes, it’s true. A police officer by the name Ndolo Charles shot himself dead today. We are still investigating the reason.
“He went to the toilet at gate 18 of the port in Kipevu area and shot himself in the mouth. We don’t know the motive,” Lobolia told journalists.
The police chief added that they were following leads by checking his phones to find out who he might have contacted before taking his life.
Lobolia disclosed that the officer used an AK-47 rifle.
The body was moved to the Coast General Provincial Hospital Mortuary.
In a separate incident on Friday, an Administration Police officer Patrick Wekesa stabbed himself on the chest in unclear circumstances.
His colleagues rescued him after he had locked himself inside a room and attempted to take his own life.
"He was screaming in pain and blood was oozing from the wound on his chest. We rushed to the room and took him to the hospital," his colleague stated.
