DPP Noordin Haji Accuses Media of Biased Reporting

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has accused the media of setting back his efforts in the fight against corruption.

According to Haji, his office was attracting negative publicity due to the angles the media sometimes took when reporting stories concerning the DPP.

He was referring to how the media covered his withdrawal of the charges issued against suspects in the second NYS scandal.

Haji claimed that the media had skewed the reports on why he dropped the charges against the suspects causing his office to receive backlash from the members of the public.

“Such skewed reporting is a recipe for stage setting for acquittals,” The DPP expressed.

Haji clarified that he had not fully withdrawn the charges but had instead consolidated the case into three clusters as directed by the court.

His office was currently reviewing the evidence against each suspect to improve their chances at securing their convictions.

He also reviewed that due to the reviews, his office had unearthed two more suspects and secured more witnesses for the case.

This comes days after it was reported that Haji had dropped charges against the ten suspects alleged to have defrauded NYS Kshs60 million.

The case was held on January 7, 2019, in Milimani Law Court before Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko.
