Ukambani Governors Join Forces to Oust Kalonzo As Kingpin

Three Ukambani Governors, Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) announced have launched an onslaught against Kalonzo Musyoka as the region's kingpin.

This is after they held a meeting to discuss the fate of the political landscape of the Ukambani community in Kivandani, Machakos County on January 9, 2019.

After the meeting, the three leaders announced that they had plans to steer the Ukambani Community in another direction.

According to them, the region needs political leadership focused on its development and has a strong negotiating power for national resources.

They accused Kalonzo, who is the current kingpin, of initiating political discourse in the region, thus stalling development.

Kibwana called out Kalonzo for inciting the Wiper party MCAs to revolt against the governors, citing that he once experienced the woes his counterparts were experiencing with their ward reps.

"It is wrong for the Wiper leader to allow Wiper MCAs to derail the work of governors through politically motivated disagreements that end up affecting the people who elected them,” Kivutha pointed out.

After the closed-door meetings, the three were joined by other leaders in two public bazaars where they issued their resolve to the public.

The other political leaders also joined the three governors in declaring that Kalonzo’s era as the region’s political boss had come to an end.

“Every idea has an expiry date. We should be understood when we say it's time for Kalonzo Musyoka to retire from politics and allow fresh leaders to take up the mantle,” Mwaga MP Vincent Musyoka uttered.

The Ukambani leaders promised to speak in one voice to avoid the incessant wrangling that had previously been experienced in the region.

“Going forward, we'll speak with one voice to unite the community and negotiate directly with the national government on the issues affecting our region,” Mutua stated.
