Cuban Doctor Fired After Travelling Abroad

Cuban Doctor Ricardo Adolfo Sanchez Carillo, who was working in Turkana County, was fired after absconding work.

Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki told journalists that the medic was let go after learning that he had travelled out of the country.

The Immigration Department alerted the ministry that the specialist had departed from JKIA on December 5 on an international flight without permission.

The Kenyan and Cuban governments have already embarked on a process to replace the specialist doctor.

In November 2018, another Cuban medic left the country after she discovered that she was suffering from a brain tumour.

The medic, Dr Eisy Cabrera, who was attached to the Nyeri Referral Hospital had undergone a 1-month observation period and treatment in Nairobi before her departure.

County Health Chief Officer Newton Wambugu praised the contribution she had made since she started working in the hospital in July.

Wambugu added, “She made proposals towards service improvement at the hospital. We endeavour to implement them in our strategic plans."

He also assured that her absence would not be felt for long as they were expecting a replacement.

In July, another of the doctors outsourced from Cuba was admonished for twerking at a club in Tana River County.
