Dusit D2 Terror Attack: Police Issue Statement

The police have issued a status update on the Dusit D2 Hotel at 14 Riverside terror attack.

Police spokesperson Charles Owino stated that the situation was being handled as a terror attack.

"All police teams have been dispatched to the scene where the incident is. As at now we are treating it as anything, including the highest attack.

"All police teams including anti-terror offices are at the scene," he was quoted by the Nation. 

The National Police Service issued an additional statement urging Kenyans to refrain from spreading unconfirmed news.

"The National Police specialised units are on site at 14 Riverside Drive to engage the attackers. Please utilise this channel for all official information and refrain from re-tweeting unconfirmed news," the tweet read.

Several roads have since been cordoned off as police authorities handle the situation.

"The area has since been cordoned off and motorists are advised to use alternative routes to facilitate smooth operations of the Police," they stated.

Police explained that attackers forced their way into 14 Riverside Drive by shooting at guards, they hurled explosives into vehicles and went into Dusit D2 Hotel.

The Kenya National Disaster Operation Centre has advised that those affected use 111, 112 or 999, as the designated emergency numbers.
