Riverside Terrorists Were From Kiambu and Nyeri - DCI

It has emerged that two of the attackers who opened fire on innocent civilians at Dusit D2 hotel are from Kiambu and Nyeri.

one of them, 26-year-old Eric Kinyanjui, is reported to come from Ngecha Village in Limuru.

Another terrorist identified as Ali Salim Gichunge alias Idris or Farouk is said to have been born and bred in Majengo slum in Nyeri.

Police found documents in their pockets that seemed to reveal their identities and were confirming details.

The two were killed by security personnel and forensic experts started to match their fingerprints as investigators were sent to their villages.

“They converted to Islam recently and we believe they were brainwashed by Al Shaabab,” an officer privy to the investigations told The Star.

Farouk was living in a Ksh40,000-a-month Ruaka apartment since March last year.

Anti-terrorism police on Tuesday night raided the house at Guango estate in Muchatha where Farouk lived with his family.

They arrested Violet Kemunto Omwoyo who is believed to be Faruok’s wife.

Sleuths obtained vital information from a mobile phone found in the vehicle reported to have been used by the terrorist.

Forensic examination of the phone revealed that the owner, whom police suspect was among those killed in the hotel, was in constant communication with five other men, some who had been killed in the attack.

According to a source, seven men, including the six who were killed at Dusit by security officers, were captured on camera having lunch at the Oilibya eatery.

They are also believed to have conducted several reconnaissance missions of the Dusit D2 hotel and complex before launching their attack on Tuesday.
