A female musician who goes by the stage name Vivian has received backlash after she stated in an interview that she used to walk to save fare.
During an interview on KTN, the songwriter recalled the struggle of trekking from Nairobi West to Nyayo Stadium.
Kenyans accused her of exaggerating her experience as the two locations are not very far from each other.
They took to social media to mock her, adding that people had walked for longer distances.
Denis Aunga posted " Why do people want to be seen that they went through a hard life when they didn't."
Mercy Amisi explained that people like narrating sad stories about their past lives because they steer emotion.
Some went ahead to give their own walking experiences in order to put hers into perspective.
Victor Kefa likened her story to the day when he had to walk from Kencom to KICC, which is five minutes away.
In another instance, a netizen stated: "That's a crawling distance baba, I've walked from Kibra to Rongai...yaani from Nairobi County to Kajiado County."
He wondered whether Vivian knew that some people walk because they lack transport rather than saving fare.
