Popular gospel artist Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, better known as Betty Bayo, has passed away.
Betty Bayo lost her life on Monday, November 10, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Her ex-partner, Pastor Victor Mwangi Kanyari, with whom she had two children, confirmed her passing as his team headed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where the late gospel artist had been receiving treatment.
In his official social media, Kanyari wrote, "It hurts in ways I can’t explain. You left before I could say everything I needed to. I still see you in every laugh our children give, in every little habit that reminds me of you. We had our moments, but through it all, you were family. I’ll carry your memory, your love, and your spirit forever. Rest easy… you’ll always be missed."
Several industry friends, including renowned Bishop Benson Gathungu Kamau, have since taken to social media to mourn the artist.
According to the Bishop, Betty Bayo was embroiled in a battle with blood cancer (leukaemia), which was at an advanced stage.
“Living a life of praising God and business, the mother of two has been a jovial artist until lately when she was diagnosed with blood cancer (leukaemia) at an advanced stage,” he revealed.
“She leaves behind a legacy of a great contribution to the growth of the gospel music industry, friendship, and a soul that maximised its full potential. She has rested after serving. My condolences to your mum, husband, siblings, friends, the music industry, and your beautiful children. Rest in Peace, Betty Bayo. Cancer will also die one day.”
Inooro TV news anchor Wakarura Wa Nyutu also mourned the late artist, revealing the pair were together as recently as on Monday, November 3.
"Last Monday I was at your place. We stayed until almost midnight; we laughed, we talked, and I truly hoped you would be well. And now you’re no more," she shared.
Betty Bayo came to the limelight with her hit song Eleventh Hour, which received plaudits from fans because of its relatability and encouraging lyrics.
Signs that her health had taken a turn for the worse emerged in August 2025 when Bayo was admitted to the hospital and took to her social media to share an image of herself wearing an oxygen mask.
At the time, she revealed that the cold weather had taken a toll on her, although she did not disclose particulars of her cancer battle.
