Ethiopian PM Picks Meles Alem as New Ambassador to Kenyatta

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has picked a University of Nairobi (UoN) graduate as the country’s new Ambassador to Kenya.

The new Ambassador, Meles Alem, revealed his excitement promising to strengthen the two countries’ ties.

The relationship between the countries is exemplary in the region and my task will be to strengthen and deepen these ties further,” Alem told Nation.

He will be moving to replace Dina Mufti Sid who was transferred to Egypt as the Ambassador.

Having lived in both nations, the new envoy described people from the two countries as one, only that they lived in different states.

He further praised the strong ties that date back to the time of founding fathers Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya and Haille Selassie of Ethiopia.

It is this passion that I will bring to Kenya when I finally take over,” he continued.

Previously, Alem served as head of diaspora affairs at the Ethiopian embassy between 2011 and 2015.

During the time, he decided to join UoN enrolling for a Masters Degree in the Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies.

He graduated in 2015.
