President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday promoted Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to what is likely a Super CS post.
Under the new arrangement dubbed 'One-Government Approach', Matiang'i will be the Chairperson of a newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee.
The committee mandated to supervise the execution of government programmes will comprise all Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
As the Chairperson, Matiang'i will answer directly to President Uhuru and by default, supervise the Big 4 Agenda.
National Treasury CS Henry Rotich will be the Vice-Chairperson of the committee working alongside a technical team chaired by Interior PS Karanja Kibicho and deputized by his Treasury counterpart Kamau Thugge.
"You will in due course of this week be provided with clear guidelines on standards, procedures and reporting requirements," Kenyatta told newly deployed security chiefs at State House, Mombasa on Tuesday.
Under the Executive Order, the Regional and County Commissioners will chair the Development Implementation Committees in their respective jurisdictions.
Uhuru further directed that the security chiefs will chair weekly meetings to monitor the implementation of government projects.
Announcing the new directive, Uhuru indicated that all departments and semi-autonomous agencies must embrace a multi-agency approach.
The President noted how the multi-agency approach helped in containing the terror attack at the Dusit D2 Hotel as pioneered by the National Security Council (NSC).
