Murkomen Sarcastically Hits Back After Uhuru Promotes Matiang'i

Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday sarcastically hit back after President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed CS Fred Matiang'i as the Chairperson of National Development Implementation and Communication Committee.

Murkomen, who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, took to Twitter congratulating the Head of State following the move.

"Congratulations to President Uhuru for the Exec Order 1 of 2019 and to my friends CSs Matiang'i and Henry Rotich for the additional responsibilities.

"We look forward to a more co-ordinated service delivery and greater accountability to the people of Kenya. God bless you William Ruto," Murkomen stated.

Many netizens interpreted the congratulatory message as a concealed and sarcastic attack especially by the tagging of the DP.

Following the move communicated through an Executive Order, a section of Kenyans opined that the President had taken powers from the DP and transferred them to Matiang'i.

This is especially on the grounds that Ruto has in the past indicated that he is in charge of supervising the government's projects.

Justifying his trips across the country infamously referred to us "tanga tanga" (roaming), Ruto has in the past claimed that he is the President's right-hand man hence responsible for supervision and implementation of the government's agenda.

Under the new arrangement dubbed 'One-Government Approach',  Matiang'i will by default supervise the Big 4 Agenda and answer directly to President Uhuru.

The committee mandated to supervise the execution of government programmes will comprise all Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

Under the Executive Order, the Regional and County Commissioners who fall under Matiang'i's Ministry of Interior, will chair weekly meetings in the Development Implementation Committees for their respective jurisdictions to monitor the implementation of government projects.

Here are some reactions to Murkomen's congratulatory message.
