How Governor Mike Sonko's Imprisonment Helps Him Govern Nairobi

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko stated that his past criminal record and life in prison have helped him grow as a leader.

He was speaking at an interview in with Citizen TV 's Jeff Koinange where he came clean about his tainted past.

The county boss told the journalist that leadership was in his blood, explaining the different positions he's served in prison.

"So many leaders are afraid to tell their truths, thinking Kenyans will hate them. Present yourself to Kenyans the way you are, they will either vote for you or reject you," stated Sonko.

When he was first imprisoned at Shimo la Tewa, he was chosen to supervised how beans and porridge were distributed.

He later served time at Industrial Area Prison where he was made the leader of Block C.

He even quipped that Industrial Area prison commandants were tuned in to the interview.

At his last stint behind bars in Kamiti Prison, he was the leader of Blocks C and D.

"I have been a criminal and a fraudster but I stopped that life when I became MP," narrated Sonko.

He continued, “That’s why I’m the only medicine for these cartels. You bring a fake title I know, a fake ID card I know, because I have been a thief but now, I’m a leader and should lead by example".
