Ruto Calls Government Officials to Heed President Uhuru's Order

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday addressed a recent Executive Order by President Uhuru Kenyatta restructuring the government operations.

Through a tweet, the DP asked government officials at all levels to align their operations to the Order issued by the President.

"Set up committees at the county, regional, national (technical)and national (cabinet) for purposes of effective implementation of projects and programmes and efficient communication," Ruto communicated.

The response by the DP comes hours after he met with the president and had a lunch meeting with him in Mombasa on Wednesday.

The two focused their discussion on a number of things including the government’s 2019 agenda for the country.

It was determined in the meeting that the approach of the Interior Ministry headed by CS Fred Matiang’i ought to emulated by all government departments.

The luncheon was also attended by other government officials including Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Aden Duale, Kipchumba Murkomen, Kithure Kindiki, and Irungu Kang’ata.

After the meeting, Kindiki indicated, “We discussed our legislative agenda ahead of the resumption of the two Houses.”

According to many in the country, the appointment of Matiang’i to a chief cabinet position with executive powers above other cabinet secretaries implied a challenge to Ruto.

However, the lunch date between the president and his deputy posed as an initiative of quelling rumors of a developing dispute between the leaders.

Kipchumba Murkomen, a key member in the Ruto camp had previously sarcastically congratulated Uhuru for appointing Matiang'i.
