4 Killed in Grisly Accident as Matatu Collides With Lorry Along Meru-Embu Road

Four people were killed while 11 others sustained serious injuries, on Friday night, after a matatu collided with a lorry along Meru-Embu Road.

The accident took place at Kiriani area, a small distance from Nithi Bridge.

According to Maara sub-county OCPD Johnston Kabusia, two people died on the spot while two others were pronounced dead on arrival to Chogoria Mission hospital.

Witnesses claimed that the driver of the lorry hit the matatu that was ferrying 10 people from Nairobi.

The lorry was reportedly transporting building blocks from Meru to Chuka town.

The Nissan driver had tried to avoid the lorry that seemed to have some mechanical problems but unfortunately it followed them hitting his vehicle from behind,” the witness told the Star.

The bodies of the deceased were transferred to Chogoria Mission Hospital Mortuary.

Kabusia further revealed that the injured had fractures on their legs and hands urging drivers to be careful on that particular stretch.

I urge drivers to be careful while on this road because it has very sharp turns,” he adviced.

The area residents revealed that they had witnessed more than 10 accidents along that stretch asking the state to build bumps along the troubled highway.
