How Raila Duped MPs to Attend His Swearing-in Ceremony

ODM Party leader Raila Odinga allegedly duped MPs to attend his swearing-in ceremony at Uhuru Park.

According to People Daily, the public oathing ceremony at the heart of Nairobi was just a repeat with Raila having carried out a similar exercise two days before.

Raila reportedly took the first oath as the "People's President" on Sunday, January 28, in his Karen home, witnessed by a few members of his inner circle and a filming crew.

The first ceremony was allegedly meant to be a pre-emptive tactical move in case things got derailed at Uhuru Park.

The entire swearing occasion was captured on tape by the crew that was trusted by the Odinga family and would likely have been released had things gone wrong at Uhuru Park.

The initial oathing was scheduled for December 10, two days before Jamhuri Day at the residence of businessman Jimmy Wanjigi at 44 Muthaiga Road.

However, State operatives learned about the plans through intelligence sources forcing Raila and his team to push the dates forward.

The secret swearing was reportedly coordinated by Winnie Odinga and remained a top secret with only James Orengo (Siaya), Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands), TJ Kajwang' (Ruaraka), George Alandwa (Makadara), Miguna Miguna and Wanjigi in attendance.

Among those who showed up at the event, only Miguna, Wanjigi, Orengo, Winnie, and Kajwang' knew what was to take place during the day while the rest had been invited for "breakfast".

As the camera crew arranged their equipment under the guidance of Winnie, Raila returned sweating after an early morning jog in the company of three aides.

He excused himself and retreated to a different room only to come out donning the same clothes he wore two days later at Uhuru Park.

Raila reportedly ambushed the invited guests of the plans ahead during the breakfast, moments before Wanjigi walked in and handed out the oathing papers that had been drafted by trusted lawyers.

As tension rose at Uhuru Park on the morning of Tuesday, January 30, the tight security forces surrounding the venue suddenly pulled out before Raila showed up wearing the clothes from the private swearing-in ceremony.

Reports indicate that the security agents, who were on high alert, had initially been given firm instructions to arrest and prosecute Raila and his team over treason

However, the US Embassy in Nairobi and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo managed to strike a truce between Raila and the State at 10:30am that promptly saw the security forces retreat.

Raila was consequently allowed to carry out the Oath as earlier planned but only to appease his supporters who had thronged Uhuru Park in their thousands.

Shortly after the truce that followed the negotiations that had lasted overnight, the process to initiate the Handshake kicked off.

However, only Raila and top State officials knew about the negotiations that led to the withdrawal of security at Uhuru Park until finally, the Handshake took place.
