Reason Mzee Moi Ordered Gideon to Protect Governor Martin Wambora

Embattled Embu Governor, Martin Wambora, has come out to tell the many challenges he has had to deal with in his life as a public servant.

The governor, who has been in and out of court fighting to retain his seat, narrated how he has managed to stay on top of his enemies for this long.

In an interview with The Star, the county boss stated that his life has been in danger numerous times for locking out corruption cartels since he was Baringo District Commissioner.

He told journalists that a lot of money used to pass through his hands and he would account for every cent for all the harambee projects, therefore Moi knew he was an upright person.

“The reason why he [Moi] instructed his son, Senator Gideon to protect me is that he could not believe the stories," recounted Wambora.

Wambora who has survived multiple impeachment attempts stated that he got his toughness from ex-Internal Security Minister Hezekiah Oyugi, who he had once served under as a personal assistant.

At one time, the struggle for control of Embu County became so intense that ex-Interior CS Joseph Ole Lenku and former Police IG David Kimaiyo warned the governor about his security.

“They told me Governor be careful. Don’t always be in your house. Be careful where you eat,” he recalled the chilling warning. “I have been security chairman as District Commissioner for Baringo so I knew the realities and what they were speaking about,” he recounted.

Lenku and Kimaiyo also instructed him to avoid night meetings completely and to desist from announcing his travel plans.

"Just appear in a place and do what you are going to do and move on,” the two security bosses advised.

Talking about his enemies, Wambora stated, “The people who wanted to remove me are poor leaders. If it was a better person, I would not mind. But if I knew it’s a leader who just wants power, prestige and to access resources, I could not leave wananchi to the lions, to the carnivores to be torn apart,” vowed Wambora.
