Uhuru Angers Zimbabweans With His Remarks

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday, angered a section of Zimbabweans on social media after he made remarks about the current state of sanctions on the southern Africa nation.

While meeting Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa's special envoy at State House Nairobi, Uhuru stated that the sanctions imposed on their country were holding it back, undermining the efforts by the government to effectively serve its citizens.

"Imposing sanction is like tying somebody's hands and feet, they cannot move. We will give our support to bring back Zimbabwe to the global platform," Uhuru remarked.

However, Zimbabweans took to social media to question Uhuru's understanding of the problems they were facing as a country.

They accused Uhuru of being very quick to call for the removal of sanctions but keeping mum even as Mnangagwa's regime reportedly harassed its citizens.

They claimed that the main issue was the government's failure to respect the rule of law, property rights, the continued crimes against humanity and the looting of public funds.

The special envoy delivered a special message to Uhuru from Mnangagwa stating that the Zimbabwe government was doing everything it could to address the challenges facing their country.

Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Perence Shiri stated that plans were underway to ensure that those who lost property during the land reform programme would be compensated.

The envoy praised Kenyatta's leadership, stating that it had enhanced bilateral relations between Kenya and Zimbabwe as well as many other nations across the continent.

The EU and UK imposed financial restrictions on Zimbabwe following former President Robert Mugabe's controversial land reform programme.
