University Students Close Thika Road Over Girl's Stabbing

Students from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) closed Thika Super Highway to protest the murder of a female comrade.

The slain first-year student was reportedly stabbed on Thursday night at around 8pm at Seagull Hotel.

The lady who is yet to be identified was pronounced dead on arrival at JKUAT hospital.

According to students who took to Twitter to protest the incident, the murder is only one of many that have happened in the area.

They stated that they have been living in fear of gangs that have been terrorising students.

"Almost everyone I know in Juja has been robbed at least once, apparently there is even an all-female gang who steal from ladies," protested Theo Mwangi.

Muange Masika wondered why crime had escalated yet there is a police station 100m from the university and a military camp that is 4km away.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out at the institution on Monday at around 4am.

The fire burned down the Student's Mess as well as several retail outlets.

Juja OCPD Simon Thirikwa confirmed that nobody was injured during the early morning incident.
