Veteran Benga musician Ajoji Dume has died.
Dume passed away at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu County at 5am on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
Confirming his death, fellow Benga artist Linet Aluoch Pamba revealed that the musician died after suffering from an illness for a long time.
The popular musician was widely known for the hit song “Nyabos Mora.”
He is survived by a wife, Atis Pesa ‘Nyar Kowino’, who is also a Benga musician.
Earlier this month, another veteran singer Job Seda, known to many as Ayub Ogada, passed away after years of battling ill-health.
Ogada, who is famed for songs such as Koth Biro, En Mana Kuoyo and Obiero died at the age of 63 in Kisumu.
His characteristic instrument was the Luo nyatiti – a traditional eight-string instrument.
His music was used on the soundtracks of films such as I Dreamed of Africa, The Constant Gardener, and Samsara.
Ogada also had a short stint as an actor, playing a Masaii warrior in Out of Africa and starring in a movie dubbed The Kitchen Toto.
