Amnesty International Kenya has confirmed that two Kenyan activists, Mulinge Muteti and Julius Kamau, were arrested today at the offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Taking to social media after raising concerns earlier that three activists might have been arrested, Amnesty relayed that only the two were in police custody, after getting arrested while seeking an update on efforts to bring Bob Njagi and Nicolas Oyoo after an alleged abduction in Uganda on October 1.

The human rights advocacy group further confirmed that lawyers were already on the case, stating, "Update: Mulinge Muteti and Julius Kamau are in custody. Lawyers are attending."

Earlier, Amnesty had said that some three activists might have been arrested outside the government offices, seeking answers, even as the Kenyan government remains mum on the two missing activists.

"After weeks of official silence, (we are) concerned that Felix Wambua,  Mulinge Muteti and Julius Kamau have now been arrested outside Foreign Affairs offices. The three were among a delegation seeking an update on the Ministry’s efforts to free Bob Njagi and Nicolas Oyoo," the notice read.

The two who are in police custody have been vocal in calling for the release of Njagi and Oyoo, even chaining themselves at the foreign affairs offices.

In a series of social media posts, Muteti said that they had been held at the KICC Police Station before being transferred to the Central Police Station.

On Friday, the two were also among the group of activists who were accusing the Kenyan government of being complicit in the disappearance of Oyoo and Njagi.

As such, they called for the resignation or the removal of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi for not

"We are aware that the government is complicit in all this, and that is why we are demanding the immediate resignation of Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi," Muteti said.

The disappearance of Oyoo and Njagi has sparked public outrage, as they have been missing for 27 days now without any confirmation of their whereabouts by either government.

They were reportedly forcefully taken by armed individuals at a petrol station in Kampala, Uganda, where they had gone to attend a rally by Uganda's opposition leader Bobi Wine.

Since then, efforts to locate them, including a habeas corpus application, have been fruitless, as both the Ugandan police and the military have refuted claims that the two are in their custody.
