ERC Announces Reduction of Petrol, Diesel & Kerosene Prices

The government, through the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Thursday announced a drop in fuel prices that will take effect starting Friday, February 15.

Having taken into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, ERC dropped the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices across the country as compared to the previous period.

In the changes announced via a press release, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene have decreased by Ksh 4.12, Ksh 6.28 and Ksh 5.20 per litre respectively.

“In accordance with Legal Notice No.196 of 2010, the Energy (Petroleum Pricing) Regulations and the amendment thereof, the Energy Regulatory Commission (the Commission) has calculated the maximum retail pump prices of petroleum products, which will be in force from 15th February to 14th March 2019,” the commissions’ statement read.

Under the new price guideline, a litre of Super Petrol will retail at Ksh 100.09 from the previous Ksh 104.21, Diesel will reduce to Ksh 95.96 while kerosene will drop to Ksh 96.50 in Nairobi.

In Mombasa, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh 97.46 with Diesel retailing at Ksh 93.36 and kerosene dropping to Ksh 93.88.

On the other hand, in Kisumu, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh 101.62, Diesel at Ksh 97.68 and Kerosene will be retailing at Ksh 98.20.

The commission attributed the changes in this month’s prices to the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decreasing by 7.23%, 11.29%, 3.92% respectively.

ERC affirmed that the pump prices are inclusive of 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with provisions of the Finance Act 2018.
