MCA Famed for 'hii ni kirimino' Viral Video Suspended

Nominated Nairobi MCA, Mary Njambi, was on Wednesday suspended from the Nairobi County Assembly for a period of 10 days.

The MCA renowned for the viral mapiripiri and hii ni kirimino viral video received the suspension over what was termed as gross misconduct.

Two other nominated MCAs, Laura Mwende, and Nancy Mukami were also suspended following recommendations of a report by the Assembly’s Powers and Privileges Committee.

The three were subject to a review by the committee following their actions during the chaos that rocked the Assembly on September 10, 2018, when Beatrice Elachi was evicted from her office as the Speaker of the House.

“Procedure and practice demand that such members be declared strangers and suspended from county service according to Standing Order 115 of the Assembly. They should withdraw from the precincts of the Assembly and forfeit right to access and allowances payable during such time,” asserted deputy Speaker John Kamangu.

It was ruled that their actions and conduct on the day were likely to reflect adversely on the dignity of the county assembly and its distinguished members.

Nine other MCAs were also handed formal warnings following the 5-month long inquiry.

The nine are Majority Leader Abdi Guyo, Minority Leader Elias Otieno, Minority Whip Peter Imwatok, Majority Whip Waithera Chege, Peter Wahinya, Antony Kiragu, Mwangi Njihia, Redson Otieno and Osman Khalif.

During the infamous incident last year, Njambi, who appeared to be drunk, struggled with security officers in her quest to have Elachi ousted only to be stopped by effects of pepper spray (mapiripiri).

However, when speaking to the committee, she categorically denied being drunk during the scuffle and claimed to be a devout Christian.

Nominated MCA, Mary Ariviza was also suspended for 21 working days following her conduct during the elections of an acting speaker on September 25, 2018.

Here is a flashback of the melee to ensued on that day:
