Supreme Court Judge Mohammed Ibrahim Gives Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi 7 Days to Apologize

Supreme Court Judge Mohammed Ibrahim has written to lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi demanding an apology for publishing defamatory words against him over the Wajir gubernatorial election petition.

Ibrahim noted that a day before the top court delivered its judgment on the election petition, Ahmednasir wrote him a message on WhatsApp alleging that there were rumours that the Supreme Court judges were receiving money in sacks and bags.

“The said publications were libellous, malicious, oppressive and spiteful and were calculated to, and did discredit our client’s good way and reputation, injured, disparaged and lowered his esteem and regard among right-thinking members of the local and international society,” read part of the four-page letter.

Ahmednasir in his message purported that Ibrahim was the only judge in the top court, who has not been mentioned even for once for taking money. However, his accusation was that the judge was not firm and strong.

He further added that Ibrahim should tread carefully and not follow other judges.

Ibrahim through his lawyer Wambua Kilonzo, has threatened to go to court if  Ahmednasir fails to retract the words published on his Twitter account in 7 days.

After receiving the letter from the judge, Ahmednasir indicated that he will be filing a petition to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) according to Daily Nation.

The rift began when the Supreme Court upheld the election of Wajir Governor Mohamud Abdi, and his opponents lawyers vowed to reveal what they believed to be bribery allegations among the judges.

The Supreme Court allowed an appeal by Mohamed Abdi, but Mohamud stayed put noting that the issue of degree was a pre-election matter and should have been handled before the relevant forums in a majority of four against two.

In their ruling, the judges indicated that the former Wajir Governor, Ahmed Abdullahi, was aware of the issue but kept quiet until he lost the election.
