Maraga Breaks Silence Over Ahmednasir's Bribery Allegations

Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga, on Thursday, responded to senior counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi’s graft allegations levelled against the supreme court.

Speaking during the State of Judiciary, the CJ asked Ahmednasir and others with information on graft at the Supreme Court to file petitions or table evidence at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

“I challenge him to file a petition and assure him that the JSC will take stern and appropriate action against those judges if given the evidence of alleged corruption,” CJ Maraga declared.

The CJ was responding to graft claims made against Supreme Court judge Mohamed Ibrahim by the vocal lawyer, in relation to the Wajir gubernatorial petition.

Ahmednasir was representing former Governor, Ahmed Abdullahi, who challenged the election of Governor Mohamed Abdi, a case which he lost.

This led to a trail of tweets in which the lawyer implied that the bench was influenced by parties with vested interests in the case.

Justice Ibrahim, on Wednesday, claimed that Ahmednasir wrote him a message on WhatsApp, alleging that there were rumours that Supreme Court judges were receiving bribes in sacks and bags.

“The problem with corruption in the Kenyan Supreme Court as aptly shown by the judgment of Wajir gubernatorial petition is that corruption is single sourced & is not open & competitive. My client was not invited to put his bid & some judges took money from only one party,” tweeted Ahmednasir.

Justice Ibrahim has since written to lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, demanding an apology within seven days for “defamatory” words published about him on Twitter.

On his part, the vocal lawyer thanked the CJ for the invitation to submit evidence he described as overwhelming to the JSC.
