Bill to Have Patient's Hospital Fees Scrapped Off After Death Passed

A parliamentary bill proposed by Nyali MP, Mohammed Ali was approved on Wednesday in parliament.

Mohammed drafted the bill proposing that hospital bills and expenses be scrapped off whenever a patient dies in public hospitals.

The Member of Parliament stated many Kenyans live on meager incomes and could not afford to pay the hospital bills of their deceased kin.

Mohammed argued that money worth billions is used on things that do not help a large percentage of the Kenyan people.

In his argument, he cited the Ksh6 billion used on census and Ksh18 billion set to be used on the referendum.

On his Twitter page, Moha expressed his delight at the passed bill.

Bunge limeidhinisha mswada niliowasilisha bungeni ya kuitaka serekali kufutilia mbali gharama za wagonjwa katika hospitali za umma za rufaa, pindi mgonjwa anapofariki (Parliament has approved a bill I proposed on dead patients' hospital bills being scrapped off)," the MP exclaimed.

Mohammed narrated that Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has 50 wards, with each ward having four beds. He stated that 78% of patients are unable to pay for the beds hence sleeping on the floor not forgetting the lack of enough doctors and adequate drugs.

He further noted that death of patients is caused by laziness on part of the government in provision of better healthcare in the Country.
