MP Jaguar’s Plan to Introduce Death Penalty for Corrupt Politicians

Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Kanyi Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, is proposing the death penalty for leaders who will be found guilty of engaging in corruption.

On his Facebook page, Jaguar stated that young parliamentarians were going to sponsor a motion in Parliament to amend the Anti-corruption Act 2011.

Currently, the penalties for corruption offences provide a fine not exceeding Ksh1 Million or imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 years or both.

The young parliamentarians feel the penalty is lenient and will petition a motion to change it to a death penalty for anyone involved in corruption cases.

If the motion is passed, the MPs want the death penalty to start with Cabinet Secretaries who will be found guilty of misusing public monies.

His Facebook followers had mixed reactions regarding the issue.

“It’s useless because convictions never happen in Kenya, corruption is even in the courts,” stated Eddie Githinji.

“It doesn’t make sense at all, a government employee steals one billion and is given one million cash bail,” wrote Anthony Maina.

In the past week, the DCI summoned 107 companies named in a mega-dam scandal where billions were allegedly lost.

Various companies supplied items unrelated to the dam construction including towels, carpets and tiles worth millions raising questions.
