Two of the suspects accused of impersonating President Uhuru Kenyatta and defrauding businessman Naushad Merali of Ksh10 million have made serious accusations against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Joseph Waswa and Isaac Wajekeche, the two suspects, claimed that their lives were in danger during a press briefing at Waswa’s Karen home on Sunday.
The two claimed that they were being followed by suspicious vehicles, which they believed to belong to police officers.
“A vehicle has been coming to my Karen home and parking outside the house every evening with unknown people suspected to be police,” Waswa revealed.
Their lawyer, Cliff Ombeta was also present at the press briefing.
Waswa further claimed that a DCI officer called David Omore was constantly threatening to kill him ever since the impersonation allegations broke out.
Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty so I’m surprised this officer is always threatening me with death. He’s been telling me that he has been employed by the state to kill,” Waswa claimed.
The two suspects went on to claim that officer Omore and others stole money from them when they ransacked their houses during the arrest, as the money confiscated was never captured in the occurrence book (OB).
Waswa claims to have lost Ksh 290,000 while Wajeckeche allegedly lost Ksh 50,000, with both going on to lay claims of tortures at the hands of the DCI.
“We expected them to book the cash at the OB as part of our belongings but the officer refused and instead tortured us,” Waswa alleged.
“One of my nerves is ruptured. It is very retrogressive that police have presumed the roles of court and can violate the law natural justice of being innocent until proven guilty,” he added.
The two alongside Duncan Muchai, William Simiyu, David Kikuyu, Gilbert Kirunja and Antony Wafula, were charged with conspiring to defraud Merali by pretending they were in a position to sell him a parcel of land in Milimani, Nairobi.
