Two pastors, Josphat Kalung’e and Nkunja M’Itirikia, were, on Friday evening, gunned down while a minor was seriously injured at Kambi Chafu in Amwathi area of Igembe North, Meru county.
The three were allegedly accosted by gunmen on a motorcycle, a short distance from Kamweline Police Station as they headed home from a prayer meeting.
The boy, who was shot in the arm and leg, is receiving treatment from the Maua Methodist Hospital.
According to Daily Nation, the incident brought to six the number of people who had been killed in the area in past week.
The attack comes barely three days after miraa farmers and two herdsmen were shot in a retaliatory attack after a businessman was killed in the area.
Mr Samuel Mugambi, 35, Benjamin Kamairo, 32, and Mr Njoroge Kimaru were killed on Monday in what police thought was a retaliatory attack following the murder of Mr Willy Harun, a trader, as he traveled on a motorcycle from Mutuati market to Gachiuru area.
The bodaboda rider, who was shot in the attack, is also reportedly recuperating at the Maua Methodist Hospital.
A badly mutilated body thought to be that of Njoroge was found in a bush on Wednesday.
Igembe North police boss David Kirui reported that they were pursuing the raiders who had been terrorizing residents recently.
Mr Kirui confirmed that the police were investigating whether the first incident was a case of robbery with violence or an attack triggered by business rivalry.
“It is as if the two communities are engaged in business rivalry. Miraa farmers are being attacked,” he claimed.
