Nine people are reported to have lost their lives in Baringo County as a result of complications due to severe hunger.
Reports suggest that the situation is slowly worsening with at least 900,000 people in 12 counties facing starvation.
For the last 12 months, Turkana's water tables have gone down drastically due to drought. The last rain was experienced in early April 2018.
Statistics conducted by the National Drought Management Agency’s (NDMA) shows most of the regions of Turkana County are currently experiencing a severe drought that has affected the majority of residents who are now in need of food aid.
Meanwhile, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa on Friday flagged off 7,000 bags of maize and 5,000 bags of beans as relief food in Turkana County following the drought situation.
"We are here in Turkana because of the ongoing drought to work closely with the county government and other humanitarian organisations for mitigation," the CS stated.
Wamalwa asserted that the National government had enough food to feed affected victims.
The government has in store at least 3.6 million bags of maize in its strategic food reserve following a bumper harvest.
Wamalwa added that the government had plans to make sure arid regions were stable and that the residents could be able to irrigate their farms.
For agribusiness to happen though, the government is supposed to build dams that can be able to increase water storage.
Ten months ago, several parts of the now drought-stricken counties were flooded.
