Disheartening Photo of Girl Drinking Dirty Water Moves Kenyans

Disheartened Kenyans have expressed their dismay after a photo of a young school girl drinking dirty water surfaced following the ongoing drought experienced in some parts of the country.

In the photo, the girl from AIC Lodengo Primary School is seen drinking muddy water believed to have been fetched from drying Lodango pan in Tiaty, Baringo county.

Angry Kenyans took their dismay to social media to bash the country's leaders who are not shy of showing off their extravagance while constituents suffer.

"In my country, in 20th Century (sic), we still have people drinking this kind of water as 'Honourable' Members of Parliament enjoy Bottled water and pay themselves hundreds of thousands. This is Baringo where Moi was a president for 24 years. They loot when arrested play a tribal card," posted one user.

"I won't be shocked to see the country executive and assembly has a budget to buy refreshments running to million," posted another.

Others even took the opportunity to blast the president's Big 4 Agenda whose food security is listed as one while more than one million face starvation.

"This is unacceptable in this time and age. And we are talking about food security as one of the Big 4 Agenda. Action is needed ASAP to save the poor souls there!" expressed a Twitter user.

The photo surfaced at a time when drought has really hit the nation raising the death toll as a result of hunger to nine people.

Reports indicated that at least 12 counties including Turkana and Baringo were facing severe drought and that the situation would worsen in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa on Friday flagged off 7,000 bags of maize and 5,000 bags of beans as relief food in Turkana County following the drought situation.
