Eliud Kipchoge Donates His Winning Left Shoe to IAAF for Exhibition

The worlds marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has donated his winning left shoe of the 2016 Rio Olympics to be one of the featured items at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) exhibition.

The shoe will be on display at the six-month “Heritage World Athletics Championships Exhibition” that will open in Doha on April 18, 2019.

Kipchoge disclosed that he was happy to do so even as he offered a signed copy of the book about his world record running experience in Berlin.

He also observed the occurrence as one of opportunity to him stating, “I’m really pleased that my career will be permanently represented in the IAAF Heritage Collection.”

“My running career has still far to go but I’m proud to donate one of my shoes from my Rio victory to be preserved for future generations of fans and publicly displayed. I hope it helps to motivate more people to take up the wonderful sport of running,” he added.

The IAAF Heritage Exhibition will be opened at Qatar’s largest shopping mall by IAAF President Sebastian Coe together and Vice President Dahlan Al Hamad.

The exhibition will also feature the world’s largest ever display of athletics artefacts and memorabilia history.

It goes a long way to tell of the history of the sport over a period spanning over 3,000 years.

Some introductory displays will focus on covering the emergence of the sport from times of the ancient Olympic Games in 776 B.C.

Special focus will also be on the first modern Olympic Games of 1896, the foundation of the IAAF in 1912 and to the creation of the IAAF World Championships in 1983.

10 huge graphics display panels will be used to offer a summary of the history of the IAAF exhibition that has had 16 editions since its establishment.

There will also be previews of IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 accompanied by a SEIKO countdown clock and QNB display.

Video screens and a cinema hall will also be used at the exhibition for highlights of the features as well as competition footage.
