The Kenya Red Cross Society, on Thursday, launched an urgent appeal for Kenyans to raise Ksh820 million in support of drought crisis victims in Kenya.
However, Kenyans are not pleased with the appeal, with many using their social media handles to express their disappointment with past donations.
On Twitter, netizens came up with a hashtag #RedCrossTumechoka which was trending at number one on Friday morning.
"They conned us with #BringZackBackHome then #KenyansForKenya, #WeAreOne and #OkoaKenya now they are here again. Mama send us a signal, they have looted the little we had now we say #RedCrossTumechoka," stated Mukami wa Embu.
"#RedCrossTumechoka ....The gap between the rich and the poor is just unbearable... Where did we go wrong Kenya," Brian Nyagah tweeted.
"You can't keep popping up pay bills and accounts like popcorns whenever there's a disaster, yet you've failed to account for previous contributions," Victor Mochere added.
The drought has affected more than one million Kenyans who are at the risk of starvation.
The most affected counties are; Samburu, Marsabit, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Baringo, Kilifi, Tana River, Makueni, West Pokot, Kajiado, Kwale and Wajir.
Reports indicate that various people have died due to starvation.
However, the government has issued several statements affirming there should be no cause for alarm as ‘no Kenyans have died from hunger.’
